At Pairable’s core are some of my philosophies on life, especially as it relates to the art and craft of fermenting grapes.

We all have too much stuff.

Our homes have become a gauntlet of discarded doodads, throwaway thingies, and wasted whatsits. We seriously don’t need one more thing. Treat yourself or the ones you love to an experience instead, a wine class or a drinkable gift instead of more stuff.

Wine should be fun!

You may not want to dedicate hours and years to learning every last grape and region, and that’s OK. With some gentle guidance and a few helpful hints, wine can feel as easy and breezy as a day at the beach.

Every bottle tells a story.

When you drink wine, you are sipping a winemaker’s liquid art. It is history, geography, family, and vision in a glass. A bottle of wine is a winemaker inviting you to the table to share his or her story.

Great wine is accessible on virtually any budget.

Wine is a grocery, not a luxury. Drinking wonderful, unique wine does not have to mean emptying your wallet. Well-crafted wine is available in every price range, whether you’re seeking everyday affordable or a special splurge.

Paired well, wine is downright magical.

When the right wine is paired with the right food, friend, or occasion, it’s like throwing aside the curtains and opening wide the windows to your soul, where the birds are singing a beautiful love song with your name in the chorus. When it’s right, it’s right.

Pairable was founded in 2015 by Janet Beeby, a certified sommelier.

Janet loves tasting and food pairing as well as writing and teaching about far-flung wines and winemakers to show people just how fun and approachable wine can be.

She believes wine is more grocery than luxury, and that it doesn’t have to break the bank to be thoroughly enjoyable. She is continually exploring and developing new and engaging ways for people of all interest levels to learn about and enjoy wine.

Janet is the wine director at Halfseas, Ballard's newest, little neighborhood bottle shop. She got her start as wine director and teacher at The Pantry, a community kitchen in Ballard, and working at Bin 41,  a wine shop in West Seattle. She is certified through the Court of Master Sommeliers and the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. She is also a French and Spanish wine scholar, certified through the Wine Scholar Guild.

At a restaurant, a sommelier is a wine professional who gives excellent wine and food pairing advice.

I am a sommelier who pairs wine to people and occasions.

Pairable is a play on the word parable which is, of course, a short story designed to illuminate something -- in this case, the stories that go into (and can come out of) a bottle of wine. Pairable specializes in wine pairings, wine education and gatherings.

Fun, engaging classes about all things wine

Special events, wine tasting and parties

Personal pairings, expertly curated seasonal wine cases

"Wine to me is passion. It's family and friends. It's warmth of heart and generosity of spirit."
